Enhancements to the Decision Ready Claims Program

As part of the Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) ongoing efforts to modernize and improve the Veterans’ experience with the disability claims process, VA is pleased to inform you about the agency’s latest enhancements to the Decision Ready Claims (DRC) program, which will expand the pool of Veterans, surviving spouses, and Servicemembers eligible to participate in the unique claims submission program. In addition to claims for increased disability compensation (commonly known as claims for increase), Veterans will be able to file certain claims for direct service connection, presumptive service connection, and secondary service connection. Additionally, surviving spouses will be able to file certain claims for Dependency and Indemnity Compensation, and transitioning Servicemembers will be able to file pre-discharge claims within 180 days from discharge. VA will begin accepting these new claims on December 11, 2017. In the future, VA aims to continue adding enhancements where possible so more Veterans can take advantage of DRC and faster decisions on their claims.
